Diving site the Crack, located 1km southwest of Long Caye, is one of Belize's most popular scuba site. It is a deep vertical cave (chimney like) where you require a light to see the crustaceans, sponges, spiny lobsters, shrimps that live here. After a short descent to 15 meter deep, you can enter the cave to navigate your way down to almost 30 meter deep where a sandy bottom with often sleeping nurse sharks will bring you back on the reef. It is scuba diving for advanced divers as the Crack is narrow at places, requires good buoyancy skills and stirring up silt can lessen visibilities to a few meters.
Although the chimney is the main attraction here, it is besides the home of common reef and coral fish also the home of several interesting species, such as huge moray eels, loggerhead turtles and Nassau groupers. There are many other mini-caves, overhangs and gullies with schools of soldier fish and silversides. On your way back to the surface you can ascend along the reef face and spot horse-eye jacks, barracuda's and an occasional bull shark out in the blue.
