The Sayonara was a small freight and passenger ferry that was scuttled in 1985 to create one of Belize's few wreck dive sites.

The Sayonara is one of Belize's few wreck dives, listing slightly to its starboard side with an exterior rapidly taken over by invertebrates and coral reef fish such as basket starfish, brittle stars, shrimp and lobsters. Because of its deteriorating wooden frame and the amount of sediment and rotting wood inside, scuba divers are not advised to enter the wreck as it might collapse soon. It is situated on the southwest side of Turneffe Atoll with a brilliant reef found to the south and south-east of the wreck with plenty of wicked coral formations and reef fish. You can see giant clams, parrotfish, angelfish, barracuda, triggerfish, grunts and flounders if you keep your eyes open.

The Sayonara used to be a passenger and cargo vessel serving between the mainland and Turneffe Island Lodge. It was sunk in 1985 to create an artificial reef, nowadays resting on coral and sand, making it a stunning location for both wreck diving and coral diving. As it is one of the few wrecks in Belize, it is definitely a must if you want to see something else than the ever stunning coral and underwater sea life.
